In recent years several concerns have been brought to our attention about the safety of pedestrians on our grounds. There have been numerous near misses involving spectators walking through the grounds and motorized vehicles. These mostly involve golf carts and gators. In the interest of public safety Tuckahoe Steam and Gas is requesting that the use of these carts be limited to handicapped and staff carts. We recognize the size of our grounds make transportation around the grounds a necessity. To continue enjoyment of the grounds for everyone we are adding two people movers which will run from the headquarters building past the museums, gas engine area and flea market and return to the headquarters. This will provide a method of transportation covering all the key areas of the grounds. Additionally, we will have a club cart available should someone need additional assistance. This cart will be manned throughout the weekend with a phone number posted around the grounds to allow anyone to call. While we realize that this may be less convenient for some it will greatly improve the safety on our grounds and we feel also increase the enjoyment for everyone.
Decisions such as these are never treated lightly. Discussion about this issue has been happening for several years. The increase in the number of exhibitors and spectators expressing concern brought this to the top of our list. As always we like the Annual Show to be enjoyable for everyone and are happy to listen to concerns about this decision.
