The F. E. Reed Lathe

The F.E.Reed lathe is similar to that shown as Figure 17 of Cope's book "American Lathe Builders: 1810-1910".  Cope dates that lathe to 1899.  It is a 14" swing "long bed", with threading via change gears and power cross feed.  Of interest is the 4-jaw scroll chuck.  Each jaw is independently adjustable, but all 4 can be moved together via a scroll mechanism. Bison recently (2006) re-introduced a similar chuck to the US market.
