The W C Young & Co. Foot-Powered Screw-Cutting Lathe |
|
This machine was donated by Bill Gosser of Medford NJ. While the original treadle is missing, it had been converted to overhead line shaft operation in antiquity and came with overhead countershaft components and change gears for screw cutting. It appears in Cope's "American Lathe Builders 1810-1910" as Figure 6 for W.C. Young and Co. of Worcester, MA, and was known to have been in production in 1897. Restoration has not yet begun on this machine. |
